Jonn, you are a sweetie to take so much trouble getting all this info for me. I've been working on my family tree for almost a year now and am amazed at the amount of information I've already been able to collect. Bridget Gribb(i)n was my grandfather's elder sister so I've been tracing the Gribbin line and not taken too much effort with the Lennons until recently. I've found Gribbins, Gribbons and Gribbens so far on the various birth certificates. I know what you mean about age differences too as I've come across that quite a lot. One of the sons who went to the States was Patrick Lennon and I actually found him under Patrick LEMON and have to admit the handwriting of the two "N's" do look like an "M" on the ship's manifest.
My paternal grandmother gave me a merry dance trying to find her birth certificate as she decided to call her mother Mary Lamber on her marriage certificate when her actual name was Mary Ann Moffat. I wrote to Scotland's People for an explanation and they told me you can call yourself anything you want in Scotland without having to legally change your name! What a blow for us. Anyway, they were a great help in tracing the correct birth certificate in the end.
I'll plug away at some of the other folks I can't find now as I have quite a few that seem to be hiding from me. I've tracked down my paternal grandfather through two marriages and several censuses but I'm hanged if I can find his birth certificate. Says he was born in Inverarary, Argyll in one, Culzean on another and Maybole on yet a third. I think Culzean is in Maybole but he's not shown on SP there or in Inverarary.
Thanks again Jonn. Tricia
