Re: A new question for you clever people :)
Thanks again - interesting if you look at my initial post as to whether Christian was actually his daughter, I see the rest of the family have married well, while Christian married a gardner and had not such a wealthy life.
I have been searching for Jame's death through the papers but I don't think I've got the knack of what to search for - clearly you have!!

There is no James Morrison in the Medical Register for 1859.

Re: A new question for you clever people :)
Hi Eric,
I saw that on Ancestry, but that is as far back as they go. I wonder whether there is any place where one can access earlier ones? It does seem to indicate that he had died by then, but what we need is proof that he was, indeed, on the register at one time.
Regards,
Sarah

Re: A new question for you clever people :)
The reason the Ancestry registers only start in 1859 is because the General Medical Council (GMC) who published the register was only created in 1858 with the passing of the Medical Act 1858. According to Tracing Your Scottish Ancestors there is a Medical Directory for Scotland for 1852-1860. If he qualified with the Royal College of Surgeons, London it would be worth contacting them. Their website is at http://www.rcseng.ac.uk/library/using-t ... y-research.

Thanks, Eric. There is a lot of good information on that page!
Lynda, have you already tried to contact the Royal College of Surgeons? Surely, they must have a record of him somewhere.
All the best,
Sarah

Hello everyone
No I have not tried to get in touch with the Royal College of Surgeons. I was mainly trying to find out about Christian's relationship to James initially. We now know he died before his wife in 1872 so at least that gives me a timeline to look at - that to the help I have been given here.
