Hello Ross
All I can say at the moment is "wow" - such a detailed reply is going to take a while to go through. Just a quick reply at the moment though.
1- Perhaps the Ann in the 1851 census at Dunbarney which I previously discounted may be back in the frame. - update - I think I've found her in the 1841 census at Mundie Bothie, Dron which is near to Dunbarney. It's still quite a way from Kenmore for a 12 year old but I can't find any other alternatives.
2- Of the 2 Ann's who were baptised in Kenmore I have not found any proof of their death's in Scotland yet.
3- The Ann who was my best fit by age is shown as being baptised on the opposite side of Loch Tay at Croftinlay.. to where Hellen Fergusson was in 1841 at Croftmartaig. The 1871 census where Ann says she was from Lour.... is probably Lurgolommen which is next door to Croftmartaig. Perhaps you may be right and that Ann was Hellen's illegitimate daughter and therefore not baptised. I have no access to any Kirk sessions so a clue could be recorded there.
4- I still think Ann's son David Alexander McDougall Sime potentially holds a clue with all with all his forenames.
5- I still haven't found a death for Hellen yet which I had hoped would help.
It's quite interesting about the link with James Panton between us.
Many thanks for all your efforts,
Kind regards
Geoff

Re: Last throw of the dice
Update:
I have at long last found the death certificate of Helen Ferguson. She obviously lied about her age in the censuses as I found she died in 1880 at 87 years of age.
No information was recorded on who her parents were but she was stated as single and the informant was William Sime, son-in-law.
This obviously draws the line under this long search for my Ann McDougall and unless any Kirk session records throw any light on who the father was that will be the end of it.
I would hazard a guess that an Alexander McDougall was the father given the forenames of my 2x Great Grandfather (David Alexander McDougall Sime).
Many Thanks to all the participants who have helped in this quest.
Kind Regards
Geoff

Re: Last throw of the dice
Hi Geoff,
The promising news is that it looks like the Kirk Session records may yet make it online (presumably to Scotland's People), once they've finished doing the Valuation Rolls and some older tax records. The projected timescale is still vague, but looks like it may start happening from 2016 according to this document:

Cheers

Hello Ross
Thanks for link, I will keep checking on it's progress.
Just had a look on the FamilySearch (LDS) site and it shows for Kenmore:-
List of the surviving Kirk session records for this parish: Minutes 1723–1762, 1770

Re: Last throw of the dice - update
Just an update to those who may have been following this thread,
I have now found more information regarding the Ann McDougall, born 1828 at Croftinlay... Kenmore to Hugh McDougall & Catherine Fraser and who was tentatively my ancestor.
I found she married a Donald McDonald in 1852 and died in 1915, the death certificate states her parents were Hugh McDougall & Catherine Fraser and her husband was Donald McDonald.
Regards
Geoff
