Hello Kenneth,
Thank you kindly for this information. It corresponds with what i have gathered to date.
One ref. i had not found was for James Hamilton in the Hearth Tax.
I had checked John Malden's "Renfrewshire hearth tax 1691 : old names in old places."
but did not find him so i'll have another look.
Regarding children to a Simon Hamiltoune in Langlie, i have three baptisims from the OPR.
I also have the testament mentioned.
As i have come across mention of other persons within this and other records i thought i'd share the following.
Perhaps it may prove of help/interest to others research.

The Testament referred to dates from May 1681 and relates to Simon Hamiltoune in Langlie.
It is a Testament Dative in which an Issobell Wilsoune, relict and confirmit is appointed ex(ecutri)x dative surrogat. A William Hamiltoune, induellir in Langlie is appointed as cautioner. This William states that Issobell is his Mother.
In the Inventare under debtis awand owt and relating to soumes of money awand
we have, ofcourse, the earle of eglintoune his master of rent also a Matthew ffauks (Fox?) in castle hill eglesholme for timbir work.
It seems Simon's death was not sudden as money was also awand to doctours & apothecaries for drogues & medicaments furnishit be (th)em to (th)e defunct (th)e tyme of his sickines.
Unfortunately they are not named, would be interesting to learn if they were practicing within the parish.

Johne Strang in eglesholme and a Johne Bryce are given as witneses.
(From memory in the Poll Tax a john Strang was in Moorhouse. And i was told that in more modern times (c.early 19th) that Langlie came into the Strang family after the Hamiltons).

In regards to the respective spouses.
For the James in Langlie (1695 Poll tax) we have a Mary Young. (Was he a son of Simon?).
Into the 18thc. and to the Andrew Hamilton in Greenfield. Andrew married a Janet Fulfoard. Later, their son William also married a Fulfoard (or Fulford).
If further details are required happy to provide same.

Regards, David.

Hello David,

Thanks for the information about the Hamiltons.

Here's what I've found about the Strangs that may be useful for anyone searching information about them.

Longlee was indeed farmed by the Strangs in the early 19th century. Robert Strang is recorded as being a member of the Eaglesham Framers Society between 1833 and 1839 in the West Dvision.

The Enumerator's Schedule of 1841, District 4, 10th June 1841 records:

Longlee
Farmer: Robert Strang 30
Ann Strang, wife, 28
Andrew Strang, son, 9
Janet Strang, daughter, 7
Ann Strang, daughter, 4
Mary Strang, daughter, 1

The Enumerator's Schedule of 1861, District 1 records:

Longlee
Farmer: Robert Strang 350
Ann Strang, wife, 47
Andrew Strang, son, 27
Ann Strang, daughter, 21
Mary Strang, daughter, 18
Robert Strang, son, 17
Margeret Strang, daughter, 15
Isobel Strang, daughter, 13
John Strang, son, scholar, 11
James Strang, son, scholar, 8
Jane Strang, daughter, scholar, 5

Strangs are also recorded as farming Longlee in both the 1881 and 1891 enumerator's schedules.

Regards,

Kenneth

Being a "bull" farmer I know some slang, but that was a new one for me. Got the drift from the previous threads. A liability with a SPRING event. We are heading into winter, had our first cold snap, and now experiencing a spell of overcast days with showers. Our [winter] show is now only three weeks away, so the working bee's have started.
