Greetings Sheila.
You are forgiven. It's called proof reading your own copy. You see what you want to see - not what is actually written. Like my "Least We Forget" Eye catching ignorance and typo's.

It's great news indeed about the heritage trail. Sheila and Alan - Pity you're both a bit far away to enjoy it. Maybe there could be a virtual trail for you to follow...

Now there's a great idea Kenneth
I've been enjoying this thread and trying to visualise where my wife's old aunt used to live.
I now have visions of you....Domain name in one hand and camera grasped firmly in the other setting off to capture views of the village as it is now then adding all the old photos you can lay hands on. We have done the new views for Kilbarchan but not yet set it up on-line (We want to sell a few CD's first
)

Mmm, that's a thought Russell. Could be an interesting project...
I like the idea of the Kilbarchan views. I'm sure there'll be a lot of interest in it.

Re: Anoyone know anything about Eaglesham?
Marilyn & Russell- Thank you for forgiving me.
I know that I should always proofread my messages, but I don't always do it. Even more embarrasing than a finger typo is a mental one. I have sometimes found when proofreading, that I have mixed up, their, they're, and there. Once I even mixed up no and know. I had written, know, I don't no, instead of, no, I don't know.
These are the kind of mistakes a spellchecker won't pick up.
Ken- Even though it doesn't look likely that I will see Eaglesham in person, I am always glad when something is preserved. As you say ,I might get a 'virtual tour'. I was so glad earlier this year when going on a virtual tour of Danville, Que. where I was born, to find that the old house my family lived in was still there and the whole area almost unchanged. This was an area of old Victorian, Edwardian and other old houses from the 19th century.
It is like a time capsule. Now I have a full picture of the house where my family lived when I was born. Only parts of the house was in any of the photos my parents took when they lived there.
It was very different story from the area in Montreal where I spent most of my growing up, where everything had changed and not for the better as far as I was concerned. Parks built on, woods cut down and built over, and most of the wonderful old houses demolished to make way for bigger and more denser duplexes, etc.
P.S. Hope that I didn't make any typos this time

Re: Anyone know anything about Eaglesham?
Greetings All
Russell, virtual historic tours are just the ticket for those of us who live the other side of the world. You and Andrew, would get our tick of endorsement, if you were to start up virtual tours of Scotland.
On October 3rd I’ve been invited back to Pukekohe to join in the “Opening of the Franklin Early Settlers Memorial Walkway” and then to have a cup of tea, at the Historic Pukekohe East Church Open Day. William SHARP having been one of the early settlers at Pukekohe East. (The Original Pukekohe) All part of the Franklin Heritage Festival Sept. 24th to Oct., 3rd.
What is great about the preservation of the old Pukekohe East Church, is that the pioneering of the district has enthusiastically been adopted by more recent immigrants. Leading the preservation moves are Dutchman Peter van DIJK (1st generation NZ’er) and Susanne STONE nee MALLOCK. Bill STONE met Susanne when racing cars in Britain. Bill and Susanne having returned to a section boarding the property he grew up on. Originally my Gt Aunt Mary JOHNSTONE’S property. (Bill’s Grand Mother.)

Re: Anoyone know anything about Eaglesham?
Hi Alan
I know we're drifting slightly from the original topic but I feel slightly envious of you having an active heritage set-up with enthusiastic supporters.
I'm a new-comer to Kilbarchan - only been here 43 years
- but I'm constantly amazed then depressed by the apathy shown by some in the village toward the whole village history idea. We have a Weavers Cottage complete with working loom (and weaver !) and many villagers have never set foot in the cottage
With modern roads and rapid transport we are a mere 20 minutes away from the centre of Glasgow so a converted weavers cottage complete with false beams is the affluent commuters dream and folk brought up in the village can't afford the prices of flats and houses and have to move away.
When it comes to funding heritage comes way down on the list for Councils and government so the commitment of volunteers and enthusiasts to establish any kind of organisation to preserve the bits that the nineteen sixties planners missed.
Or am I just becoming jaded and cynical in my old age

Re: Anyone know anything about Eaglesham?
Hi Marilyn,
Thanks for the info! I didn't know that I could do that for a title. I just corrected it.
Better still I can correct any in the future.
