Can someone please advise on where I would find information/access to a will made by a person who died in 1939?

You can see the wills extracts at NAS - huge bound books for each year (up to I think about 1955-ish) in the small search room, which give a summary of the main points of each will, and the ref. number for the full will which you would then need to request if you wished to see it.

There is an annual index of testaments, the Calendar of Confirmations. From 1901 to 1959 it takes the form of printed or typed volumes and from 1960 it is in the form of microfiche cards. The Calendar covers all of Scotland and gives details of the deceased, their place and date of death, and details of when and where their testament is recorded. The index is available in the Historical Search Room and the Mitchell Library, Glasgow, holds copies up to 1936. From 1985-1996 there is a computer index available in the NAS search rooms.

Hi Lesley

On the subject of wills, this post galvanised me into activity and I have just paid my £5 to buy online image of 9 page will - but when I pick it up in "viewed images" it will only let me read and print the first page

It tells me to "view next page free" but when I try, it just goes back to Viewed Images which contains - you've guessed it - the first page, Grrrrrrrrr

Suppose I must contact SP or am I perhaps missing something

Hi Lorna,
Sounds as if something is not working properly for you. I just went back to some of the wills I have downloaded in the past and tried and it all works as usual, though. When you click on the blue box to get the next page, then a link to the next page appears below it. If this isn't the case for you, I'd send a contact form.

If you’re using Firefox try using IE and see if that works. Maybe there’s an ActiveX or some non standards component on the page.

Just guessing wildly as I have neither Wills nor Will Power.

I am now certain that you follow the 'fish diet' for brainpower, as expounded by Bertie Wooster concerning Jeeves

Internet Explorer did the trick and I got all 9 pages. Hopefully I'll remember that trick in future.

That’s good Lorna,

It was just a shot in the dark, so maybe it’s something do with sardines being good for the eyes.

There’s a Firefox Add-on that I use called IE Tab. Its very handy for those Web Sites that have been designed for Microsoft’s non standards compliant browser and that haven’t be tested to see if they work properly with browsers, such as Firefox, that comply with International Standards.

It usually does the job and is a lot quicker than separately starting up IE.

Hello Alan

Today I received a suggestion from SP on how to fix my problem. They couldn't replicate my problem and thought I should "clear any internal cache - clear files and cookies and reboot". Now that would have been easy for me

So, thanks again Alan and I have put on the "IE tab" and take it that that will work in future without any input from me
