Although brought up using the imperial measures of acres perches rods chains etc - some of the Scottish terms are beyond me - so would appreciate some explanations of the following descriptions related to a sasine.
extending to one hundred and sixteen falls Scots measure this was the area of the land
twenty seven poles and nine yards Imperial Measure this was a description of a part that was excluded - given the mention of yards - is a pole length rather than area?

Re: Old Land Measures
A pole is 5.5 yards
a fall is 18.6 feet
A fall sometimes used for area ( actually a square fall) or 346 square feet.

Away more fun than metric

Re: Old Land Measures
Thanks David - I had never heard of either measure - but I do remember measuring out an acre in the front playground of our school when I was about 9. Since replaced by classrooms a residence and the local Police Station!
