I have sent some information by a relative about my mother`s sister who was born in Keith 1904. The information given is as follows Margaret "Peggy" Boyd married a Mr Cuthbert circa 1940. Mr Cuthbert was a bagpipe maker. They had a daughter who was a female pipe mayor of the Bon Accord Pipe Band in Aberdeen.
The only info I have been able to verify is that Margaret was born on the 7th November 1904 in Keith daughter of Robert Boyd and Johanna Sutherland. I have searched Scotlands People but cannot find any reference to them.
If anyone can help it would be most appreciated.

Hi Elna
The problem you may have is that some of the events you are searching for are too recent. On SP there is marriage of a Margaret Boyd to a man with surname Cuthbert in 1941. I do not have any credits at present so do not know what in what area of Scotland. Have you seen this already? As it is within 75yrs ago it will not be avail\ble to view in full online...you'd need to go to Edinburgh, Glasgow or one of the other centres which have access to the DIGROS system to see it yourself, but at least the online index would give you his first name.
We cannot help with the daughter as her birth is less than 100years ago and she may well be living. A google search may turn up some info on her though, if the "first female pipe major" position was considered newsworthy.
Best wishes
Lesley

Re: Margaret Boyd and the Aberdeen Pipe Band
Lesley thankyou for taking the time to reply. I have made a search on google for female pipe major but to no avail. Also have checked the marriage of 1941 which was not the right one.
Have found a marriage in St Pancras 1927 for a Charles Cuthbert and Margaret Boyd but have not been able to verify.
Regards

Hi Elna
Have you had any sighting of them in the 1911 census? It may help to confirm some family details if you do not have much on them.
The marriage you mentioned in St Pancras 1927 for a Charles Cuthbert and Margaret Boyd - does that tally with a first name which you already know for Mr Cuthbert? And if they married there, I'm guessing that they must have returned to Scotland and Aberdeenshire at some point to tally with the story about the daughter being a pipe major there. Also a marraige in 1927 is quite a long way off from 1940, but it depends on how accurate you think the info from the relative is - would it be possible to get a few more details from the relative which might help you in your search?
Best wishes

Hello,
Have established Margaret married a Charles Cuthbert from Keith date as yet not established. Their daughter played for the Bon Accord Pipe Band. Still attempting to find out more.

Re: Margaret Boyd and the Aberdeen Pipe Band
Hello Elna,
More likely it would have been the Bon-Accord Ladies Pipe Band, especially if it was the 1960s or 70s. Seems there were quite a few ladies pipe bands in Aberdeen around that time.
This lady was born about 1940. “Edith Thomson, 71, herself a former drum major with Aberdeen's Bon Accord Ladies Pipe Band” http://www.accessmylibrary.com/article- ... astic.html
Another mention of the band here http://www.pipesdrums.com/ViewObject.as ... s-ID=17974
Maybe the RSPBA would know who best to contact for information. http://www.rspba-nos.org/index.php
All the best,
Alan
