Thomas Flemming/Agnes Toohey
I need help - Have Australian Marriage Certificate 21/12/1900, for Edward Flemming, 39 born Glasgow - parents stated Thomas flemming & Agnes Toohey, both males occupation "carpenter". Cant find anything on Agnes Toohey, did find Agnes Whyte (widow) marrying Thomas Flemming Pt Glasgow 1855, he too is a carpenter. Can anybody help, don't know how to find this Agnes Toohey or even if same person

Hello zacharri and ![TS welcome [TS_welcome]](./images/smilies/TS_welcome.png)
I see the family you are talking about in Port Glasgow in the censuses. Have you downloaded the death certificate for Agnes in 1868 in Port Glasgow? Just wondering whether the surname Toohey is mentioned at all. I see from the search that "other surname" is White.
All the best,
Sarah

Hi sarah,
Did get c opy of death certificate no mention of Toohey. what I don't get is, on marriage certificate, says Agnes is a widower, but her parents are whYte on marriage and eath certificate.
How can she be widower with no mention of her married name - is that usual to revert back to maiden name.

Hi zacharri,
What exactly does it say on the death certificate? I believe I found it by searching for Agn* Flem*ng and then checked it by adding other surname Wh?te, so there must have been some mention of Flemming there.
Are both parents surnamed Whyte/White?
All the best,
Sarah

Re: Thomas Flemming/Agnes Toohey
I can find no record of the birth of Edward - which should have been c. 1861. Not on any census, nor civil registration.
I see that the marriage was in Queensland. There is a possible arrival in Townsville 1883 on the Qld archives site
FLEMMING Edward Scottish Lassie 29 Mar 1883 109 IMM/141 18469 Z1973
FLEMMING William Scottish Lassie 29 Mar 1883 109 IMM/141 18469 Z1973
Ancestry has this listed and includes an age for Edward of 23 and William 18. (It seems they have used a manual index, series 13086, to create their online index) Are you able to check the immigration files at the Qld Archives which may provide some additional information.
William seems to be included in the main index for this ship (couldn't find edward in the index) which is online - but only gives name/age (and terrible writing!)
http://www.archives.qld.gov.au/Research ... spx#search
There is a death for a William Flemming in Qld 1905 age 35 (not quite right) no parents on index.
