Christina McLaren ~ mother mystery ♥

Post by Anniespangles » Wed Oct 29, 2014 4:08 pm

Hi sorry Ive had to pop over and ask for assistance in finding my great great grandmothers mother . I have the death certificate for my great great grandmother named Christina McDiarmid married to Archiebald MMcDiarmid (sometimes seen as McDermid) her maiden name was McLaren .On her DC it states she died 3rd Dec 1905 aged 57 putting her DOB around 1848 .It states her father was Lachlan McLaren who worked as a shepherd but it says MOTHER UNKNOWN . I have the 1891 census that places Christina and Archibald in Bonhill Alexandria it shows Christina was born in Invernesshire Morven (??) it also shows she could speek in both galic and English . I woud love to find out who Christinas mother was I ve spent hours running up dead streets including trying to find the marriage certificate for Archibald and Christina, now I ve came to you for guidance .Thanks Anne ,Oh and my middle name is Christina ;-)

A few thoughts - you may have already considered these and drawn a blank.

Her Father's Death certificate, Lachlan McLaren, it should show his wife's name [if known to the informant]
or his gravestone may have a her name on it [but harder to find]

Any other census records for any of the family, 1851 would be a good one as she's still be at 'home' and hopefully with a parent [or 2]

Any children of Christina and Archibald - the parents' marriage place and date will be shown [though if Pa had wet the baby's head first that could be a little inaccurate ;) ]

Maybe there's no mystery and whoever informed of her death simply didn't know who her mother was!

A little later [had to get the tatties on!]
I looked at Freecen - Morvern is only 1841 there at present.

Didn't find a Christina and only 1 Lachlan :

MCLAUREN Hugh M 10 Argyllshire

Could be a spelling variation to try.

Hi Anne,

Have you looked at the 1865 marriage certificate for Archibald McDiarmid and Christina McLaren? That gives the names of the parents of the bride and groom. The bride's parents' names are a good match for the family group that Wilma found, and also that Christina was not born by the time of the 1841 census.

All the best,

AndrewP

Thanks for all your assistance.I took a look at the 1851 census and found Christina aged 7 with her father and her mother Catherine ! yay ! Christina is down as Christy so that works .Later I think the 1865 marriage certificate could be that of Archibald and Christina my great great grandparents the thing is I have an 1844 marriage notice for a Lachlan MacLaren and a Catherine MacDonald maybe this is wrong because Catherine has the maiden name McMillian on her daughters marriage cert ?Finially just to confuse me a bit more I have a DC 1859 Appin for a Lachlan MacLaren aged 84 years ,it just states he is married but no spouse name given ,it was signed by his son in law ? McPherson . I don't think the maths works out on that one . Thanks for helping if I am missing anything obvious in my searching please show me the light I truely do need some direction with this one :-) every little helps ;-)
