Depends on which department you intend to visit.

Archives and Library - no appointments necessary, but if it's the Registrar's section (BMD's etc.) then you'd be best to book a seat in advance.

Hi Ina if you are using the genealogy centre for the BMD'S then you need to book, They are currently opening once a month on a Saturday which is very helpful for anyone who cant make weekday visits. I've already use it for May and I'm booked for a visit for June.
Hope this is helpful for you

Monday the 28th of September is only a holiday in the Glasgow area - Glasgow's September Weekend.
The rest of the country should be fully operational!

You'll find every Monday throughout Sept will be local public holiday somewhere: Falkirk area are off the 1st Monday, Glasgow the last, Edinburgh take the 3rd Monday.
It's worth checking the local authority/council pages for school and public holidays before you make concrete plans.

Although the Genealogy Centre is closed the rest of The Mitchell Library should be open as it is only the registrars who will be on holiday.

Annette
