Thanks for the information - haven't been to fmp for ages - they seem to have caught the Ancestry disease of thinking quantity is better than quality - I'm trying to access early parish registers 17-18th centuries and they are giving me hundreds of records for the 19th - regardless as to the dates I provide.

Hi Trish
I keep to SP myself, I have been fortunate in that all mine (that I know about) are there on SP.
Briefly tried ancestry on a free sub, but became disillusioned when I found it only gave heading, cost lots to examine document, no thanks. I don't like being misled.

Hi Stew

I use SP for my Scotland folks - but it isn't so good for for England, Ireland, Canada, US and South Africa - found a few in India as well. Years ago - when our exchange rate was better, I found a world sub on ancestry UK was very much a worthwhile investment. Currently I check a few countries to see which one has the best deal for my $$. Main problem is their indexes - which through the continuous "improvements" never seem to find what they should find & always find hundreds of non related records. Thus said, the marriage records from various counties of England (9 pounds each from GRO) have paid for my sub many times over. If all the countries had their records available at the price on SP could be a different story. :)

I've never been a fan of fmp - but they do have a few records I can't find elsewhere - and I found a couple of same on the weekend - so most pleased for the message.

Hi Trish
I understand fully what you mean, my only foray south of the border was for my great grandmothers birth certificate, who was bon in Hampshire, luckily, so far the rest are all Scots, although who knows about some of those hidden side relatives
