Moonwatcher

Post by Arthur » Thu Mar 31, 2016 1:42 pm

Last night, as I was searching away on the web for old friends with whom I had lost contact, I was stunned to discover that we had lost one of the greats - Moonwatcher.
I never met Bob Wilson, spoke to him only once, on the phone, but I got involved in his writings, and did a lot of proofreading, editing, and layouts for his work.
The Glesca Patter. The Grey Man of the Merrick. Lots of great stories.
And, of course, The Informant.
To quote from the Grey Man series ...

As he says his goodnights and heads for bed, he recalls the words of Gavin Maxwell in one of his 'Ring of Bright Water' books ...
"Only The Rocks Remain"
With this, he drifts off to sleep with one rock in his mind - an ageless face, looking out from a desolate hill far to the south.

Bob. Ah've got anither wan for ye.

"On this rock, we will build our church."

Be seeing ye, Bob

Arthur: Thank you for posting the sad news of Moonwatcher's passing.

Moonwatcher's posts were always friendly, on target and helpful. His stories, both funny and touching, create a great vision of life in 'Glesca' and were very well received; and in their own right prompted much discussion and stirred many memories! For those interested in reading some great stories, they are still on TalkingScot under the heading 'Hearthside' or a search can be done entering Moonwatcher in the author field in the search tool.

Thank you Moonwatcher for so many enjoyable posts!

Very sad to hear this. I loved reading his stories and enjoyed his banter, especially at our virtual parties.

RIP Moonwatcher

This is very sad news, but thank you so much, Arthur, for letting people know. I kept in touch with Bob for some time after the group we met on was disbanded, but then we lost touch. Moonwatcher was a gifted writer and one of the funniest men on the planet. I didn't save much from the group we met on, but I made sure to print off all of Moonwatcher's stories. Rest in peace.

I am trying to build a family tree for a friend and as I attached the death record, I noticed that the married daughter of the deceased was the informant. It is late and I wanted to enter the name of the deceased's son-in-law using the death record as evidence so I wouldn't forget this new fact. Ancestry has a long drop down list of other facts one can enter for a person, but informant is missing from the list. I then thought of Moonwatcher and his hilarious story about an informant. Cheers, Bob.
