An unlikely name. My 3 X G Grandfather, died October 13th 1869 was living at 8 Fox lane South Leith Edinburgh.
How can you find out if that address was a house or a tenement?

if you look up the valuation roll on ScotlandsPeople for 1865, you can search by place, put in 8 fox lane, in Leith Burgh.

There are 24 people listed living in 8 Fox Lane.

One of the names is Thomas MacKenzie

As jgmills has said there are 24 names listed on the Valuation Rolls for that address.
4 of those are listed as 'Proprietor' or owner. The rest are 'Tenants'.
So there are 20 individual households/dwellings at that one address.
Almost certainly a Tenement type of building.
