Father's WWII Naval Records Online

Post by ScottJG » Sun Dec 11, 2022 9:09 am

My father, Robert Scullion Gwynne (dob 13 April 1923) served for a short time in the British Royal Navy. I have his naval record but have been trying to find it online.
His documentation states,
His Port Division was Devenport
His Official Number was JX554260
He enlisted on 14 June 1943
He had postings on the Glendower, Wellesley and President III.

He was discharged on 2 April 1946.

I have searched here there and everywhere in an attempt to find his record online or find out how I can access it. Some advice would be appreciated. I understand that some, if not all of his postings may have been to land based 'ships'. Any information on his postings would also be appreciated.

Kind Regards
Scott Gwynne

Scott,

Unfortunately, all official 'Service Records' for WW2 personnel are still restricted and only held by the Ministry of Defence (MOD) as they are still protected under the UK Data Protection Act and the MOD's own Policies. So they are not on-line anywhere.

You can apply for them if the person is deceased. There is a fee to pay. Details here:

Thank you Elwyn. I thought that was the case but was unsure where to go to 'purchase' my father's record. He dies in 1978. You link should provide the avenue I have been seeking.
Thanks
Scott
