Thanks Davie.
Sorry about the weather.
It's 38 degrees here today in the centre of Queensland. 21 overnight and a long time to go before it cools down

A pub called "the shop" in Glasgow
Just on the chance after hearing talk about 'old' places in Glasgow
does anyone remember a Glasgow pub called "the shop" or just "shop pub"
My grandad used to run it many years ago and had a daughter ... who must be now 60+ anyways it would be good to hear
if anyone remembers / knows any one this (oh, my grandfathers names was (is) Thomas Arthur Carpenter Kerr)..

Hi Wini,Davie is the "Saracen Head" still in the Gallowgate?
The Sarry heid is still ther.
As fawr as um aware it only opens at the week-ends nooadays.
An Irish theme pub, weyoot the theme.
If oor David ever gets the taxi fare gethered the gither and takes his tape recorder tae try an' get some Glesga banter, he kin forget it.
It is his Erse he will need tae be mindin'.
An' before some members get ther' underwear in a fankle.

Jeremy:
Oan the topic of "shop" regarding a pub in Glasgow.
This could have been a joke, as in tellin the weans you were going to the shop rather than the boozers.
In several areas in Scotland, if there wur only two pubs in the vicinity, one could be referred to as the big shoap, the ither the wee shoap.
Jist a thocht

I have never been there but my husband tells me that is where they used to head for the strongest Cider in Scotland.
Probably imagination from nearly fifty years ago.
Especially since he wasn't much of a drinker. He is actually a disgrace to the Scottish Race. Doesn't like Whisky, or beer or any other alcoholic drink for that matter.
Maybe the sarry heid put him off for life.
