Whit's Posh

Post by Ted » Wed Nov 29, 2006 12:35 am

Hi Everyone

I overheard a conversation at a social event at the weekend and just have to share it with you now that I have finally stopped laughing. Completely true - honest !!

To set the scene three ladies in their early forties were discussing their childhood times and trying to get into context what was condsidered 'posh' where they lived, being a nosy git interested in all things genealogy my radar picked up on the chat which went like this:-

Mary - "Where I wiz brought up in Musselburgh ye were posh if yer Dad had a car"

Carole - "Where I wiz brought up in Edinburgh ye were posh if yer Dad had a job"

Anne - "Where I wiz brought up in Airdrie ye were posh if ye had a Dad"

Priceless !!! (obviously nae offence tae obidy frae Airdrie)

Ted

I enjoyed your bit of eavesdropping!

When my brother returned to our home town, he met the fellow who had been our across the road neighbour for the years of our childhood. The following conversation ensued:

“Ah mind eer family. Richt posh ee wir”
“Posh? Us?”
“Aye, ee hid eer ain hoose.
“Nah, it wis rented”
“Bit eer faither hid a caur”
“Belonged tae the firm he worked for”
Our ex-neighbour insisted “Ah’m telling ee. Ee wir posh! Eer mither never let ee oot tae play wi toarn breeks”.

Best wishes

Catriona

A far cry from the origins of "POSH"............... :)

Guid hunting,
