Thanks guys, it is interesting to see how people do it.

I have been using a program called family historian but I have noticed that you can put sources in but I never have. Is there any nifty little features where you can link to BMD's?

So far all my computer copies are on usb pen drive and on the computer. I really need to make back ups, which I am terrible at doing. I always keep forgetting to do backups especially with my growing photography collection.

Hi pandabean
Not sure about your programme, but I would think there would be something. I use Family tree maker, and there is a scrap book facility on there. I used to save certs onto that and also photos where poss.........even if it was just graveyard ones - a bit sad I know  As most of the programmes I have seen are very similar, I would think there is some way you could do the same type of thing

What I like is that I am not the only one with bits of paper all over the place.
Can't have any visitors because they can't get on the bed in the spare room. My husband is always complaining that he can't sit down to dinner without moving papers.
I am not as computer literate as some of you people so I save to my computer then back up every now and again, but I can't get away from those bits of paper, I just find them easier to look at.
I will be making use of your suggestions and change my system for tyhe umpteenth time.

Hi all

In my Legacy program, I have been able to put the BMDs and Census into the Picture Gallery for each individual. The Zoom facility is brilliant. And of course, when working on an individual, I have all his information on hand.

My paper files each have a 2 letter (LI, LE, BL and MA for the 4 main families) + number code, which is entered into the Source File on my computer. I simply give each new source the next number on it's particular family file. They're easy to find.

Regards
Catriona

Must admit, although I have all these certs filed on the computer in so many ways!, I still have all the printed versions filed. Almost too embarrassed to admit  that, I CUT the certs into each entry and then file alphabetically in lever arch binders..........now you all know of much of an anorak I really am #-o

To Pandabean

Family Historian software has a user group website at www.fhug.org.uk
You will probably find advice on tagging images there.
