Got this message tonight when i switched on the pc.
Checking file system on C
Then it said
NTFS one of your discs needs to be checked for consitency.
Correcting error in index $130 for file 79271
Recovering orphaned file into directory 79271
(most of the files seemed to be my photos on here)
CHSKDS is verifying security descriptions - then 100% complete
Was worried when i saw a blue screen but it wasnt the fatal one just the Microsoft page still, anyone know why this occured and should i be worried ?
Thanks

Hello Tracey,
I think my neck has had an argument with my pillow and it’s a bit hard to maintain the seat – desk – mouse – keyboard – screen position so I won’t talk for long.
I’ve had a couple of those before and it wasn’t a problem. It sounds like the normal disc check that is run whenever a minor inconsistency is found on startup. It’s probably fixed but it would be prudent to do the usual thing when something out of the ordinary happens and make sure your backups are up to date.
You may have meant CHKDSK unless there’s a new version for Vista? You can run it on XP by clicking Start – Run and typing CHKDSK in the box. When I ran it on mine it deleted an index entry from somewhere or other.
There’s a Wiki here. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chkdsk
Hope that helps,
Alan

Don't worry unless it happens constantly.Tracey wrote:.... anyone know why this occured and should i be worried ?
Your computers disk has a special section on it which holds an index of all the files on it. When you start your computer up it does a check on this index to ensure it is intact. When ChkDsk runs automatically it has detected an error and is attempting to fix it.
The most common reason for a problem with the index is that your computer was powered off without it shutting down completely. There are other reasons but that is the usual one.
Anyway, don't worry unless you get this each time you start up the computer.
