The cost varies from 8p to 12p per credit, depending on the package. If you buy the 12p credits you will pay £1.20 to view a transcribed page and £3.60 to view an original page.
Might just wait till they include it on FMP later this year - they say
Scotland - Donaldson / Moggach / Shaw / Geddes / Sim / Gray / Mackie / Richards / Joel / Coull / Mckimmie / Panton / McGregor
Ireland and Scotland - Casey / McDade / Phillips / McCandle / Dinely / Comaskey + various spellings

Yes it is expensive but the quality is amazing! You get to see the actual census return so (if you're lucky) your relative's handwriting!

Meg

PS I forgot to say Tracey I think the prices will be the same on FMP; the 1911 census is specifically excluded from its subscriptions.
Main family lines are Harpers from Midlothian, Fife & Kinross-shire, and Dobies/Dobbies from Midlothian. Also Strathearn, Stobie, Layden and Downie.

Both FMP and www.1911census.co.uk are companies operated by BrightSolid (operators of ScotlandsPeople). So it is unlikely that FMP will offer the 1911 census at a different price from www.1911census.co.uk .

Can I buy a subscription to access the site?

1911 census records can only be viewed using PayAsYouGo credits on this website. There will be a subscription service available on findmypast.com (new window) later in 2009.
Hi Andrew
I saw this and obviously misread it.

Even with the charges they have, it is still going to advance my research into my son-in-law's rellies a lot.

I might even be able to find my own missing Irish born Great Great Grandfather/Mother, he who'd served in an English regiment, lived in Glasgow for a time, then disappeared again with no signs of a death for either of them in Scotland.

I've come across quite a few minor mis-transcriptions too. Perhaps I've just been unlucky but I've found things like Rashel for Rachel and Ivey for Lucy and Rogal for Royal. In my grandfather's household of 5 only one has been correctly transcribed. I wouldn't have been able to find my gt grandfather but for the fact I knew where he'd be ( he died soon after the census was taken) so goodness knows what he's transcribed as!

However the full search facilities are not available yet ( no wildcards yet for instance) to minimise the load on the site. So it may be worth waiting a while for those tricky ones! :D

The release of this census seems to be causing a wee bit of a bottleneck on Ancestry

Only to be expected I suppose. Having found a few of the folk I needed, needless to say, Ancestry was my next destination!

I'm going to let the fuss die down a wee bit
