Robert Atkinson b. 10 Feb 1766 Brampton, Westmoreland, England, m. 8 Jan 1800 Kendal, Westmoreland to Mary Aitken b. 10 Nov 1779 Kendal, Westmoreland, England.
Roberts parents, I am fairly certain, were Richard Atkinson and Ann Airey, and having not succeeded in finding PR's for them I assume that they are the immigrant ancestors from Scotland to England.
Mary's parents are yet unknown, though I think I found her in the 1787 Westmoreland Constable's census in Stricklandgate as the daughter of "Widow Aitken" and the sister of John, James, "Janat", Ann and Hannah. would that there was an uncommon given name among them. I haven't succeeded in finding any PR's for the Aitkens.
Robert and Mary moved to Kirkby Thore and had 11 children there, leaving for America in 1822. some of the children stayed behind. at least one came later with her children.
they are;
John 1801-1848 m. Julia Wilhelm
Anne 1802-1820
Hannah 1803-1886 m. Edward Steacy
Sarah 1805-??? m. Thomas Hodgson (Thomas refused to migrate to USA)
Mary Jane 1807-??? m. Mark Atkinson said not to be related
James 1808-bef. 1850 m. Lydia Ann Watt
Jane m. Elias Bonine
Robert 1812-1909 m. m. Mary A. Taylor
Richard 1814-1840 d. of Small Pox
Elizabeth 1817-1897 m. William Cross
Aitken 1819-1836-died from a hunting accident
Ann 1822-1822
Sarah married Thomas in Kirkby Lonsdale and had 7 children by him. when the youngest was but 6 months old, it is said that they were leaving for America but Thomas left her on the dock. she came to America with her 7 children, but without him.
I don't know who else in the family married in England, but I do know at least some of whom married in America. I do know Hannah, James, Jane and Elizabeth married in America.
unfortunately Robert and his family, however many they were when they left, sailed for Baltimore and the ship's records for that period are lost, but Sarah sailed for New York and we have her ship's record.
I'd love to hear from relatives of any of these people.
Elizabeth is my ancestress.

Thank you, Lesley,
I have been in contact with a few cousins, but most of the lines remain silent. I hope there are more cousins out there, where ever they may be.
