1911 Ancestry

Post by nelmit » Fri Mar 30, 2012 8:39 pm

When I search the official 1911 census I get one hit for Matilda Naden age 15 at Leek, Staffordshire so I'm sure she's the lady I'm looking for but when I search Ancestry I get nothing. :? Other areas at Staffordshire show up so what am I doing wrong?

Regards,
Annette

Hello Annette,

There's something here about only heads of households being searchable
http://search.ancestry.co.uk/search/group/1911uki

You'll have to browse Leek or something?

All the best,
Alan

Could she have used an abbreviation ?
There's a HILDA Naden listed on Ancestry in Chesire !!.
Quite a distance away but who knows.
The age is right.

Back again Annette.

I almost forgot to mention you can figure out the other household members using the methods shown here. http://www.1911census.org.uk/1911search.htm

They appear to be as follows:
WILDE ALETHEA F 1846 65 Leek Staffordshire
WILDE JOHN JAMES M 1891 20 Leek Staffordshire
PICKFORD JOSEPH M 1893 18 Leek Staffordshire
WARDMAN COLIN M 1893 18 Leek Staffordshire

Hope that helps,
Alan

Hi Annette,

Found her, thanks to the names provided by Alan! (You always come through, Alan) :D

Matilda Naden is a 15 year old domestic worker for a farmer. She appears to have been born in Harpur Hill (crossed out).

Is this who you're looking for? If so, if you still can't find it, send me a pm with your email address.

Regards,
Anne H

Many thanks all - whit a team! :D

Despite Alan's advice I still can't get the record on Ancestry - thank goodness mine are all Scottish!!!!

I've sent you a PM Anne. The one I'm looking for was born at Howgreen, Derbyshire but since she appears to be the only Matilda Naden in 1901 and is definitely not with her family in 1911 I can only assume this is the right one.

Regards,
Annette

Hi Annette,
If you look at the drop down menu in the 1911 search on Ancestry you'll notice that Staffordshire isn't one of the choices, although it is there in the browsing section. That says to me that they haven't finished indexing that area yet.

Cheers,
Sarah
