Hi I am looking for information on my great grandfather Michael Gannon. He was born abt 1873 in Tuam, Galway, Ireland. His parents are Patrick Gannon and Honora Duffy. I know that Michael had some siblings. I know of Thomas, Timothy(married Mary Rushand moved to NeY York and became a New York City Police Officer), and Delia(married Thomas?? and had at least 1 daughter Nora, Nora married Martin Joyce and had at least 1 son Thomas). I have reason to believe that there was also a John, Brigit and Nora. I know that Delia lived in Garrymore, Cloghans Hill, Tuam, Ireland, as did Nora. Michael married Mary Chambers in 1900 in Cleveland, Ohio. Mary's parents are Thomas Chambers and Mary Moyles (could be Myles). I am trying to verify Michael Gannon's siblings and get info on his parents and the parents of Mary Chambers. I am at a brick wall. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Nicole,
This is not directly relevant to your question, but have you notified FamilySearch.org that Michael's death certificate is missing from the Ohio Deaths, 1908-1953 database on their site? According to the index it is there, and thankfully you can see the transcription, but if you click on his name for the image another certificate comes up. His is supposed to be number 27596, but the images skip from 27595 to 27597.
I was trying to find any siblings who might have also died in Ohio, but he was the only one that popped up with the correct parents.
These are the children of Patrick Gannon and Honor Duffy in the Ireland Births and Baptisms, 1620-1881 on FamilySearch:
Thomas Gannon born 8 Oct 1869, Tuam No 2, Galway
Timothy Gannon born 9 Aug 1872, Tuam No 2, Galway
Michael Gannon born 28 Dec 1873, Galway
Patrick born 24 Dec 1874, Galway
Bridget born 20 Sep 1880, Dugara, Ireland
It's a start...
Regards,
Sarah

Re: Gannons in Tuam
thanks Sarah, I didn't even think about doing that because I have Michael's death certificate. I think I did find it on Ohio Deaths (not sure though).
I do believe these are the right gannons, however I believe thare are 3 siblings missing. There is Delia, John, and Nora. Not entirely sure about John and Nora but I know there was a sibling named Delia (Ihave a few of her letters to her brother Michael). The return address on those letters is Garrymore, Cloghans Hill, Tuam. I do have some none asking the elders of the small nvillage Cloghans Hill about my Gannon relatives but I haven't heard back from him yet.
Do you know how I can find death certificates in Tuam Ireland?

Nicole,
Statutory registration of births, deaths & RC marriages started in Ireland in 1864. You can search the BDM indexes on the LDS Beta & pilot sites.
http://www.familysearch.org/search/coll ... on/1408347
If you find an event that you want, you can order a copy of the certificate from GRO Roscommon. The cheapest option is a photocopy. Provided you quote the Registration town, year, quarter (if there is one), Volume & page number (all of which will be shown on the LDS record), and GRO don’t have to do any searching, they only charge €4 per photocopy. http://www.groireland.ie/
Be aware that Irish death certs are not as helpful as say Scottish ones. You get the person’s name, place of death, cause of death, estimated age, and informant’s details. But you don’t get parents names, nor the spouse, unless the spouse happened to be the informant.
For deaths prior to 1864, you may have to rely on gravestones. Few RC churches kept burial records.
I had a look for a Delia living in Garrymore in the 1901 census. This is the only one I could see. Her husband’s name is not Thomas so not sure whether it is the right family.
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/p ... e/1379462/
The person’s townland is their address for census purposes. Be aware that there are 3 or 4 townlands called Garrymore in Co Galway.

Hi elwyn, thanks for the information. I will check out those sights you gave me. You are right, there are is than 1 garrymore in Galway, but I was under the impression that there was only 1 Cloghans Hill. Am I wrong about that?

Re: Gannons in Tuam
I am only aware of 1 Cloghans Hill but I wanted you to be aware of the extra Garrymores because if you search Griffiths Valuation or the Irish censuses you'll get results from the other 2. Hopefully that'll help you disregard the irrelevant ones.
