Thank you for help

Post by crayspond » Wed Nov 23, 2011 10:38 am

I would just like to say a thank you to everyone on this forum and especially to Elwyn 1 for his help and patience - he has been very informative on all things Irish!
I am awaiting another marriage cert to arrive and cross fingers this could be the one! Watch this space.

Many Thanks,

Ailsa

Hello Ailsa, hope that MC worked out OK.

Hello Dizzybint, This is the one. I remembered your Auntie not long after I discovered Google had put the Evening Times from 1950 online. viewtopic.php?f=1&t=15507

But make sure you get a copy of that, as with all things on the internet it could disappear without trace tomorrow. If it won’t print or save try the snipping tool or printscreen key to take screenshots, several if necessary, call them Eva 1, 2 and 3, whatever, and join them up later. If you have difficulties with that ask and someone will help.

All the best,
Alan

Hi Alan,
Yes i did get a reply from GRONI as follows

A search has been made in the records for an entry relating to the Marriage of Jane Dickson or
Dixon and Elizabeth Murphy 1846 for the year 1845 to 1849 inclusive. No entry, corresponding with the particulars given in your recent application, was found in that period.

At least i can discount that from my search - more likely now that they were married in a church of some denomination.

Regards,
Ailsa

Ailsa,

GRONI has all Registry Office marriage records and all Church marriages except RC, from 1.4.1845 onwards. (RC were only recorded from 1864). So if GRONI can’t find the Dixon/Murphy marriage (and assuming the details and date are accurate) then the marriage really has to have been in an RC church. They are the only denomination not included in GRONI’s records for that time.

HI Elwyn,

As you know i have been looking for church marriages for this couple for a while - you have kindly helped me look on a few occasions.
I had thought as my gt grandmother and siblings were not brought up catholic there was a chance it would be a civil marriage. I am glad though i requested it as i can concentrate on finding them in a church somewhere !
