Re: Emerald ancestors look up ?
Thanks for the birthday greetings Sarah.
I am trying to find out as much as i can while i have the 1 month subscription as you can imagine.
I had good help on the Belfast Forum which is great. They helped with the tracking down of Dugald McFarlane - son of Dugald who committed suicide in 1856 in Partick, Glasgow. Dugald Jnr signed up to the Irish Royal Artillery in 1863 age 15 - quite interesting description of him.
Height 62 3/4 ins - chest 29 1/2 ins weight 95 lbs Hair Brown pulse 85 beats Respiration? 20 inspirations muscular development good. He was in the army for 22 years! He was in India and South Africa.
When he returned he married Martha Wood in 1884 in Derry and as far as i can find out had one son called Albert Dugald McFarlane.
On the 1901 and 1911 census of Ireland there is a niece living with them - Elizabeth Douglas - embroidery stitcher born Glasgow, Scotland. I believe her to be the daughter of Ellen, sister of Dugald Jnr and my relation James. I have downloaded the births of 11 possibles born in Glasgow and wondered if you still have access to ancestry can you see her on there with mother Ellen or Helen McFarlane and father Alexander Douglas. The favourite is the one in Partick. They were married in Ireland in 1879. I wonder why she was born in Glasgow and then is living with relations thereafter.

Re: Emerald ancestors look up ?
Hi to All,
I bought some more SP credits and I was correct with the Partick birth for Elizabeth Douglas (see previous post) born 20th Sept 1893.
The address she was born is 52 Smith St, Whiteinch, Partick. Father Alexander Douglas - Mercantile Clerk and Ellen Douglas m.s MacFarlane and below the date of their marriage 1879 Nov 25th Londonderry Ireland.
Still a bit of a puzzle why Elizabeth turns up in Ireland in 1901 and 1911 living with her Uncle's family.
On with the quest.
Regards
