Thanks for that, Elwyn
Do you know if it would be possible to see her admittance records, presumably between 1891 and 1901, even if she lived past 1914?
Best wishes,
Sarah

Re: Thomas Caldwell and Margaret Barbour
Sarah,
Yes I think they would. If you get the name of the institution, search the PRONI e-catalogue to see what records they hold, and whether they are open or closed. Even with the records under 100 years, they will often give access but you have to explain your relationship to the person and as I mentioned, because they are keen to keep adjacent patients records private, what you tend to get is extracted information rather than sight of the original. But it’s better than no access at all.

Re: Thomas Caldwell and Margaret Barbour
Thanks, Elwyn. That's encouraging. Now, if she can only be tentatively identified in 1901 or 1911, Frances' friend might be able to track down some information.
Best,
Sarah

Re: Thomas Caldwell and Margaret Barbour
Thank you all for your continuing efforts to trace the elusive Margaret Barbour/ Caldwell. I have looked at the Scottish records but can find no trace of her there either.
My friend has supplied some further information.
The witnesses at Thomas and Margaret's wedding were, Charles D Reynolds and Elizabeth Barbour. Elizabeth barbour married William Pickett in the same church as Thomas and Margaret in 1879.
Thomas and Margaret's six children.
Joseph (died in infancy)
Margaret
Thomas (died in infancy)
Mary
William (died aged 19)
Harriette (married John Coates Smith) believe they had three children
Margaret was sometimes known as Jane.
Some of the addresses that the family lived in
Greenhill Terrace, Belfast
Mountpottinger Road, Belfast
Hartington Street, Belfast
Ravenhill Road, Belfast
Rugby Road, Belfast
Hartfield Terrace Ormeau Road, Belfast
Colensa Parade, Belfast.
Florenceville Avenue, Belfast.
Any further suggestions/ideas of where to look now would be appreciated.
Thank you all again
Kind Regards
Frances

Re: Thomas Caldwell and Margaret Barbour
You could work through all the Margaret Caldwell deaths on the GRONI site, for the years 1911 – 1934 (or earlier' if you felt it appropriate). There’s probably only about 15 or so in the right age group, with just a handful born c1855 that died in Belfast. They cost £2 each to view and so you could probably check all the likely deaths for £30 or less.
Remember that the age on a death certificate was often just the informant's best guess and could well be out by up to 5 or 10 years for someone in their 70s or 80s.

Re: Thomas Caldwell and Margaret Barbour
Thank you all for helping me find the elusive Margaret Barbour/Barber.
I have spent the last week looking at various suggestions made, unfortunately Margaret still remains lost.
I looked at the will for Joseph Barber which initially seemed promising as it mentions a daughter Margaret Caldwell, however there is no mention of an Elizabeth Barbour who was one of the witnesses to Thomas and Margret's marriage. My friend thinks that Elizabeth married a William Pickett in 1879 and in the same church that Thomas and Margaret were married and that she is a sister of Margaret. I have tried looking for her death to ascertain who her parents were --another brick wall
I can see how my friend has become totally frustrated with her search for Margaret.. Any more suggestions would be gratefully received.
Kind regards and many thanks
Frances

Re: Thomas Caldwell and Margaret Barbour
Despite my best efforts, all the help from the TS family and of course my friend's original research, the elusive Margaret Barbour/ Barber still remains elusive.
She is going to Ireland on Wednesday where she hopes to carry out some more research, I have suggested that she looks at the family mentioned on Joseph Barbors will, records for any institutions and newspaper files.
Anyone any other suggestions ?
Thank you all again for reading my posts and for responding with suggestions and information.
Kind Regards
Frances
