Can anyone assist in information about a Daniel Sullivan who married a Mary ( poss Abbott ) in cork, had a son Daniel before settling in Merthyr tydfil ( see 1861census and on ) where they had more children including my great great grandfather Michael born about 1861 in Merthyr tydfil. He married a Mary ??? And had children including my great grandfather William john/ John William in 1886 about, he married a Mary Ann Jarrett born 1883 Herefordshire, before they too moved to Herefordshire,

Any help with the families history in Ireland will be appreciated,

I assume Daniel was RC. RC marriages were only entered into the Irish statutory records from 1864 onwards. Prior to that you need to rely on church records. This couple evidently married prior to 1861 and so that’s where to search next.

Most surviving RC records are on-line free on the NLI site:

http://registers.nli.ie/parishes

However to make effective use of them, you need to know which parish the marriage took place in. If you don’t know that you can try this site, which has some Co. Cork marriages:

https://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/

You can also try rootsireland (subscription) which has some others.

Daniel Sullivan is a pretty common name in Cork. You probably need to get his wife’s maiden name from one of the Welsh born children’s birth certificates, to be sure of finding the right marriage in Ireland.
