Poland .....

Post by Cathy » Thu Jul 14, 2005 3:03 pm

Hello All,
my history is pretty rubish, so can anyone help?
There seems to be a lot of Poles arriving around 1881- 1900. Was there any particular reason for this?

Hi Cathy,I would think the political upheaval and the need for jobs brought the polish people to the UK as well as the USA and Canada. There are whole towns in Alberta made up of Polish immigrants and their decendants. You know the old saying...."The grass is always greener..." :D

Hi Heather,
excuse my ignorance, but what was the political upheaval? Do you know?
Cathy.

P.S. I wasn't notified of reply.

Hi Cathy,Poland was in a state of upheaval from the 1800s onwards. This was felt by all people as Poland was at that time the center off Europe. The Polish people were trying to regain their independence and this affected both the Roman Catholic Church and the Jewish Peoples.
To get a better explaination try this link:

Hope it helps,
