To jump in here, I was not aware the LDS would supply information as to the submitter's findings.
I have a situation regarding the family I searched on LDS to find had been researched before. I contacted the person by email to enquired if his interest was for himself or on someone else's behalf. His reply was it was done several years ago and he had more or less forgotten about it. I then assumed it was for someone else, who would be the party I would dearly wish to hear from.

I mentioned above that I'd found someone who'd submitted a lot of info on my line. Just had a look at one of the entries again - pressing "details" next to Submitter shows the person's name and full address. I had an email address for the same person but I'd found that through another source - poss Ancestry, then googling got me her webpage - sadly turned out not to be current.
I was surprised to see the information but I guess the choice would have to lie with the submitters.

As a matter of LDS policy, possibly driven by legislation, I seem to recall that, after a certain date - can anyone comment on that?, - no details are any longer available on the submitter .......pinkshoes wrote:I mentioned above that I'd found someone who'd submitted a lot of info on my line. One member of my family who is named as submitter on the Ancestral File must have put the information in when the File was started in 1978. He died in 2001. His information is still there. Fortuanately for me, the address is where his widow still lives.
Would things be different for the IGI submitters?

HI my understanding is that submitters(I am one myself!) can choose to put their contact info there or not. Also depending on when it was submitted is a factor in finding the submitter.I think where you have a common ancestor anybody would want to share.I do!
If all else fails you can write to a Family History Centre(one with a Post Code! as they recieve post!) & request the info.If you are far from one I would be happy to try to find out the info for you as I am at Hyde Park FH at least three times a month(I need to get a life!)
I almost had a heart-attack when looking at the name of a submitter on a connection of mine-it was someone I have known for about 25 years! No clue from either of us that we had this connection!

Joette,
I might just take you up on that offer - hope it was meant for me! In the meantime, Catriona is looking into it for me so I'll wait until I see what gems she comes up with! (Thanks Catriona)

Yes Tish but as I know that many folk are far from a FHCentre am happy to have a look at films etc for them.
I'm usually the annoying one in the corner muttering "But that's not true" or "Well that explains a lot of things"
I love it when somebody else shouts with glee at a discovery & my nosey self likes to ask what they've found.Sometimes we end up hugging each other with joy(I usually confine myself to females for this but I did hug a hunk once for this shared discovery you understand!)
My most interesting encounter was on a day when I had made zilch progress & was thinking again of jacking in the rellies.A lady approached to ask for help in tracking down a Scottish Birth entry which she couldn't find.It was a Mac or a Mc so I explained about the indexing of such & we quickly found the entry.
She explained that she was searching out the line of a friend who had died recently& who had been unable to search for herself. This person had
1 Been born in Scotland under a very common name.
2Moved to England aged 12 & taken on her Step-Father's name.
3Married in Canada but changed her name shortly thereafter.
4Divorced in USA& remarried in Egypt(where I was married!)
5Widowed in Europe somewhere & then remarried in England.
6 Changed her name again.
Now can you imagine trying to track her down?If the friend hadn't been given all the details I suggest she would have been impossible to find.
Her reasons for the name changes were personal & not sinister. She had no children/siblings to do this work & I thought it was lovely that this young woman was doing this for her friend & no she wasn't one of mine but I wouldn't be surprised if that's what some of mine have done!

Joette,
sounds fascinating! Now I'm taking you up on your offer. The family I am interested in can be found on familysearch by keying the parents 'Peter Mitchell and Mary Bowman' It comes up with a list of some of their children:- Donald, Stuart, Charles, Peter, William, Farquharson. These all have
Source Call No. 1058439 and
Batch No 7614507 with
sheet numbers 57, 59, 65, 66, 67, 94.
If I key in 'Peter Mitchell and Anne Duncan' (Peter's first wife) it comes up with two of their children, Mary and John. John has
the same Batch No as the second family, 7614507
same source call no 1058439
but sheet 96.
A younger daughter of the second family, Clementina, I have found separately with
Batch No 7614508
Sheet 19
same source call no as the others.
I've wandered back and over through the site using these numbers to no avail. Maybe it's as Andrew says and it's just not there anyway. I have also figured out how I found a previous submitter and it was through the Pedigree Resource File and his address was current and he has been a tremendous help. I suppose I just wanted to get lucky again!
