Is there any way to determine if someone died after 1954. I am looking for a Helen Canavin born April 1, 1864, Father James Canavin, mother Catherine Groves. She was born in Paisley Scotland.
I have a Ellen Canavan in the 1901 census age 38 living in Partick. I have Ellen Cannavan age 27, living in Paisley in the 1891 census. I have a Ellen Conway age 17, at 19 Inkerman in the 1881 census. I have a Helen Cavanan age 5, in Paisley in the 1871 census. In spite of the name changes I beleive this to be the same person from 1864 to 1901. In 1901 Ellen was working as a servant. I can not find her marriage or death.
Any suggestions on were to look or how would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Dave

Hi Dave
I did a quick check of the information you have on the censuses and I would agree that this is the same Helen who was born 1864 to James Canavin and Catherine Groves. Checking through the births of the other children, where possible, James and Catherine are the parents and they are all illegitimate which would suggest that James and Catherine were never married. I was not able to locate a death for Helen either so chances are she left Scotland or did survive until 1954. If the latter you will either have to visit New Register House in Scotland or have someone do it for you. There is always the possibility that her surname has been altered yet again on her Death Certificate but I tried every variation I could think of but to no avail. Her father James came from Fermangh in Ireland. Is it possible she went to Ireland in search of her roots
All the best with your search and please let us know if you find her.
Cheers
