September 15th - Edinburgh holiday

Post by Chris Paton » Wed Sep 03, 2008 6:39 pm

Please note that September 15th is a local holiday in Edinburgh, and so all facilities at the GROS, National Archives and the new ScotlandsPeople Centre will be closed, as will the National Library of Scotland.

Speaking from personal experience, it is a real pain to travel all that way for no gain! Twice in the last two years - honestly, I'm determined to learn this year... :)

Hi Chris,

Thanks for letting us know about the holiday. Would be frustrating to travel to Edinburgh, only to find out that everything was closed.

Regards,

Ina

Coming from Northern Ireland, and despite living here since 1997, I still have not got used to the various different regional holidays around Scotland, partly (I suspect majorly!) because when I worked at BBC Scotland, we took English holidays along with the rest of the Beeb down south - so to this day I never know when Glasgow Fair or whatever is about to happen! It never occurs to me that one part of the country will be closed when another is still going, and I've been caught out on a couple of occasions before, so thought I'd get in early this year and help anyone else who might make the same numbty mistakes as me! :)

The Aberdeen holiday weekend is the 19th & 22nd - different from Edinburgh!
