OK It's me this time. Been playing around renaming and creating forums. If you have any suggestions, feel free.

Aye I was always the "mapman". I often took these ones up as a challenge looking at a host of different ages and types of maps on the nls digital library website and comparing them to the indexed maps of old-maps and streetmap, as well as a check on Google or Searchthingy where required. Also (on paper) I refer to the Royal Mail postcode directory. A good imagination for the spelling of placenames is also a requirement.

A couple of the good ones were Cairnknussie (in Aberdeenshire) and Phenzhopehaugh (in the middle of nowhere about 12 miles west of Hawick). The spelling of both varied a lot over the years.

My favourite place was Phantassie, which is near West Wemyss station (which, of course, is nowhere near West Wemyss).

I did consider buying the house there, just for the name - beats being near Helions Bumpstead!
