Hi
Are there any online Post Office Directories which cover the streets of Giffnock, or what is now East Renfrewshire? The Glasgow directories claim to include Giffnock, but not in 1911-12 or 1927 they don't.
Thanks.

Re: Post Office Directories
Hello Hibee,
Here’s the full range of Glasgow Post Office Directories. They go up to about 1940. Maybe Giffnock is covered in one of the later ones. The NLS now has about 1,000 Scottish Directories online there. http://archive.org/search.php?query=gla ... xts&page=2
All the best,
Alan

Thanks, Alan
Giffnock gets a couple of pages in the "Suburban" section for 1940, but is not covered by the Street Directory. Presumably because it lies outside the Glasgow boundary.
Cheers

Thanks, kenspeckle
Unfortunately my street (built 1910) has not made it into the suburban lists by 1911-12.

Re: Post Office Directories
Although the earlier Directories may not have a street by street Directory of Giffnock it is mentioned quite a few times. The 1911/12 Directory has 234 addresses listed in Giffnock while the 1912/13 has 285 - the vast majority of these are the home addresses of businessmen from Glasgow. Possibly another way to search if you are looking for a specific address.
(The 1911 Directory does have a section devoted to Giffnock - page 1536 - which is primarily an alphabetical list of names with addresses, just street names not numbers.)
