Just had a look for Aberdeen Lunatic Asylum to see if there was any records available and SCAN pointed me in the direction of Grampian Health Service. but beleive it or not the library will be closed for the rest of the year due to Ill Health! Shouldn't jest hopefully the archivist makes a recovery.

If not replacing her/him is an indication of the value the authorities place on the job I think she/he should get her/himself back to work extra quick.

The records are in the process of being moved from their current storage to the University of Aberdeen's Special Collections. There is someone answering queries, and the archivist is on the mend but owing to the logistics of moving the collection and so on it may be some time before you receive an answer. Hopefully things will be back to normal by the end of the year.

That is good to know,but why can't they put that explanation on the web site.
I've been waiting patiently for a long time (seems more than a year) for word
that the records are available again.

I'd get back in touch with them via email, and see what stage they are at. The move wasn't meant to have happened so quickly, and it co-incided with the archivist being off as well so it's been a bit fraught. It's slowly getting there though.
