Strathclyde Area Genealogy Centre in Glasgow?

Was it any good?

I might give it a go, before I trek through to Edinburgh.

This is Park Circus in Glasgow, it used to be just the Strathclyde area of Scotland that you could search from here. But now it is linked to the DGRO in Edinburgh (on-line), so you can search all of Scotland now, only thing is they only have the microfiche for the old Strathclyde area.
You will be able to search the 1871 and later census as well, still not got the 61 or 51 yet.
The cost is £13.00 for the day, it is always busy so you will have to book a place about a week ahead. I was there on Tuesday and had a very productive day.

Alan.

Thanks Alan, helps to hear from someone who has been.

Is it straight forward enough to find things when you're there?

Would you happen to know the nearest train station to it, I hate taking the car into town.

Hi J,
The number 11 bus goes along Woodlands Rd - eventually. Takes about 1 hour from Clydebank.
You get off 1 stop before Charing X; that's just across from Lynedoch St.
Although the bus drops you off nearer than Charing X Station, the train Alan mentioned would probably be more comfortable.

You're wise to leave the car. A few months ago you'd need to have been at Park Circus abt 8am to find a parking space.
But not so now - simply because the council have installed parking meters; and they ain't cheap!

Everything at the Centre is pretty straightforward, and the helpful staff will assist with anything you're not sure about.
Enjoy your visit - it's a bargain at £13 for the day.

Jack
