I was just looking at Glasgow.gov web site and saw their bit about ordering certificates and thought as i dont have an actual copy of my grandmothers ......then saw it cost £13.50 !! Here i can go to my local reg office and they cost me £7.00 ish and even when i have had to order one from up in Leeds it still only cost me £7.00. Unfortunately my grandmother was born in 1906 so have some way before S/P have it.
Is that the true cost or could one of my family go to whatever reg office and get it cheaper ?
Hope this makes sence as im still in shock

Scotland - Donaldson / Moggach / Shaw / Geddes / Sim / Gray / Mackie / Richards / Joel / Coull / Mckimmie / Panton / McGregor
Ireland and Scotland - Casey / McDade / Phillips / McCandle / Dinely / Comaskey + various spellings

Sorry Tracey but that is how much it costs for an extract even if you call in person.

Of course you can only buy certificates at that price in England - no downloading a copy like we can on Scotland's People
Or you could get a cheap flight up and spend a day in Edinburgh and get as much information as you can from NRH [ events up until present ]

Not if you visit New Register House in Edinburgh and order it in person during your research, when the cost is only £8. (OK you will already have paid £17 for a full day's access, or £10 for half a day.......)
Otherwise the costs are shown at
http://www.gro-scotland.gov.uk/famrec/h ... flet2.html - in other words, in the above situation, the "particular search" fee doesn't apply.

Much the same with Park Circus in Glasgow, its £7.50 if I remember right, you can even order one from another registrar area it will be posted out to you.

The extract would cost £8.50 plus the £13 for your day a Park Circus.
So it would be economical if you were researching for the day.

I have been ordering certificates from Martha St. in Glasgow, I paid for the certificate and post, it cost £14 50. that was for one birth certificate, I didn't mind as it was delivered almost immediately, not only that it told me exactly what I wanted to know. This was ordered over the phone and I found it very convenient.

Hi Ya
I take it Park Circus is in Martha St ? i will look it up. Do they have a web site ? I never bothered too much about getting my grandmothers birth certificate as i know exactly what will be on it (one of the few with no surprises - i hope

!) but am starting to think it would be nice to have a copy. She and her sister were the only ones born in Glasgow and her sisters i got of S/P. But saying that there is a big gap in their ages
