Have found some info for my family

few pages on my 3rd cousin

Angus John Beaton - Have a copy of his book

This detailed map of the Black Isle is taken from Angus J Beaton's 'Illustrated Guide to Fortrose and Vicinity, with an appendix on the Antiquities of the Black Isle', published in Inverness in 1885.

Also on the Mackintosh Line

Alexander Mackintosh of Farr - his maths book and history book, and also some drawings

The history is interesting, as a few connections I am in contact with at present received this bursary - as they were able to prove a connection to the Mackintosh's

In his will, Captain William Mackintosh of Farr stated 'Having so far done with my relations it is my express will that £5000 be vested in trust with the Magistrates of Inverness for the time being...to be appropriated to the education of five boys in succession...of the name of Mackintosh.' They were to be educated at the Royal Academy of Inverness. The fund was used to educate a small number of already affluent boys rather than a large number of poor boys. Colonel Mackintosh, half-nephew of William Mackintosh, had three children at the Academy, including Alexander, all funded by the bursary

also of interest from the history book

Alexander Mackintosh of Farr's history book from the Inverness Royal Academy in 1853.

The history written in the book is of Edward I and II of England. Alexander talks about Edward I's involvement in the Crusades and the origins of the oldest son of the Monarch being Prince of Wales. He also talks about Edward I being the 'umpire' in the descision as to whether Robert Bruce or John Baliol should succeed to the Scottish throne after the death of Alexander III.

He goes on to talk about William Wallace defeating Edward's army at Stirling but later being defeated at Falkirk, captured and executed.

The death of Edward I led to his son Edward II being crowned. According to Alexander he was a 'weak and miserable king' who was later conspired against by his wife and Roger Mortimer, taken prisoner and murdered[/b]
