Help with LDS
Hi Folks,
I need someone to explain (slowly, in words of one syllable) how to find my way around the LDS site. I've been told several times that someone has entered information on the Mitchells from Crathie on the site. I've been told how to find out who it is and I'm embarassed to go back and say I don't understand! I did find one person who had Forbes connections one of whom married one of the family but it's not him. There's no LDS near me so I can't go and view whatever films or whatever it is I'm supposed to view.
Tish ( unashamedly displaying ignorance, again!)

Someone once told me the only silly question is the one you don't ask or something along those lines.

The ones where you can find the LDS submitter's details online are in the "Ancestral File". On the IGI search form, go to the left margin - "Ancestral File" is near the top of that list. On an Ancestral File results page click on "details" in the submitter section for name and address details.
Of the various submitted entries for my family, I am yet to find one listed in the Ancestral Files. I do not know the connection between LDS submissions and entries in the Ancestral Files. So from my experience, I would say you are in the lucky minority if you can find one of your people with Ancestral File submitter details. On finding the submitter, there are no guarantees that the person is still at that address (or still alive).
All the best,
Andrew Paterson

Thanks guys - that was what I thought, but hoped there might be another road in!
I did find someone who'd submitted tons of stuff of interest to me (most of it I knew already) but the submitter was clearly some kind of cousin in the States hitherto unknown. I emailed the address shown, but unfortunately came back undelivered. However, I'm like a dog at a bone, and intend to write to the actual address in case she's still there.

The impression I got from reading the info on the family research site is that the details about "submitters" can be got from an LDS Centre if you have the Batch No.
I have contacted "submitters" from the Ancestry File on two or three occasions. With perhaps one exception, I've had replies from several people who turned out to be long distant cousins with their roots in the Fordel, Fife mines. One "submitter" had died, but his widow replied and we have kept up an interesting and helpful correspondance since.
