How to I access stornoway's BMDs on the IGI. I've input a couple of names, using Argyll but nothing comes out.
Is there another area name?
Did the LDS film the Lewis records?

Hello Annpa
Not sure if this helps but according to the Hugh Wallis site these are the batch numbers for Stornaway.......listed under Ross and Cromarty
Stornoway
C110881 1855-1867 M110881 1855-1875
C110882 1762-1860 M110882 1762-1819
C110883 1868-1875 M110884 1819-1856
The "c" ones are for Christening...and the "m" for Marriage and the dates that each covers.
Best wishes
Jean

thanks so much for your prompt reply. I didn't think about Ross and Cromarty. Just though about Argyll and the Isles, and couldn't figure out why there was nothing on Lewis or Harris or the others!!
Back to the search. The reason I'm searching there was I had come to a dead end with Glenlivet, 1841 census saying they had been born out of county - so where?
Then in a conversation with an elderly aunt about something quite different she said that two brothers had come from stornoway - cattle drovers - and had settled in the Braes of Glenlivet.
It's amazing what turns up!!
Cheers
