Irregular marriages - anyone found one?

Post by elmca » Thu Mar 23, 2006 6:55 pm

I can't find a marriage for my gggg-grandparents who had their first child in 1825/6. It's been suggested that they may have had an irregular marriage at one of the marriage houses on the border. They were both Scottish, had their children in Scotland etc. so what I would like to know is - did Scottish couples still use the marriage houses to get wed? I always imagined it was just for English runaways! Has anyone else come across a Scottish couple getting married at the border ad if so what information did you find? 8)
