IGI Batch Numbers

Can anyone tell me what significance there is to finding extracts with the same batch number?

Extracts with the same batch numbers signify that they are from the same parish within the same timeframe (timeframes vary in size from under 10 years to 200+ years). The timeframe is given on the IGI record page. The parish is named on the index page and record page.

An index of Batch Numbers by country, county and parish can be found on Hugh Wallis's website.
