Best wishes

Hmmmm......me again

If you search for the death of Jane Arris Graham you'll find her in 1864 and also discover she had married for a second time. This states who her parents were and If I'm reading her mum's mn corrrectly then it's possible this Jane has connections to the Ogilvie Arras born in 1807 from the listing I just gave above???? Is that what I'm seeing??????? Were you also under the impression Jane was a sister to your Mansfield???? :-k

Best wishes
Jean

Hi,

Back again. I found this interesting. On the IGI there are 4 children listed for Mansfield ARRIES and Cecily HOPE. This is submitted information. The children are JOHN c1810,ALEXANDER c1812, JANE c1813 and female c1815. There is an extracted birth for a CECILY HOPE b 04 MAR 1786 United Presbyterian Cheviot Street-Nc, Wooler, Northumberland, England. Her parents are ALEXR. HOPE and JANE, which are names your Mansfield and Cecily have called their children. Mayby the researcher who has submitted the information has made a few assumptions with things they were unsure of.

I would go back to the info I KNOW to be correct and mayby the good folk on here could help sort things out.

Hi Karen
Thank you so much for the information you have given me,Mathew Mansfield married twice, he married Cecily and had 4 children with her one of whom John is my 3x grt grandfather. Cecily died in childbirth in 1815, Mansfield
Married Jane Hall Davison, they also had 4 children. Mansfield and jane emigrated to America with their children in 1841.
The Jane Arries married to Graham is Mansfield and Cecily's daughter.
At last i have a place to start from with Mansfield and Janes marriage.
thank you again

I am also looking for information about John Arris or Arrise. I have some information about the Arries family. A history of Otsego County, NY, tells the story of Alexander Arrise, born in Yetholm around 1810. He emigrated and lived in Morris, NY. According to the history, his father Matthew Mansfield Arries, Sr. was the son of John Arries, a blacksmith who married a woman named Wright. Matthew Mansfield came to Burlington, NY in 1842, worked for a few years and then moved west. He died in Lodi, WI.
I have an obituary for one of his sons, Archibald Arries, that says he was born in a house that spanned the Scotland-Northumberland border, Yetholm.
My 3rd great-grandmother was Isabella Aris, also from the same area in Northumberland. She was a contemporary of Matthew Mansfield Arries, Sr. and married William Curry. They also emigrated to Burlington in 1849. I would like to know if she was related to the Arries family. My grandmother kept the obituary of Archibald, which makes me suspect there was a family connection.

Hi there and an extremely warm welcome to [talkingscot]
Although this is an old post we never consider any post closed because few of us can consider our researches complete and any snippets of information can prove the sledge hammer to break down some of our brick walls.
Magspattison still visits TalkingScot so she will no doubt get notification of your post and be in touch.
It's very satisfying to us when new information helps bring together the widespread family links :D

I have a copy of the original record for the 1817 marriage of Mathew Mansield Arris. It reads:
"Helterburn, Nov 29 1817. There was married by Mr Morison, Mathew Mansfield Arris in the parish of Branxton, to Jean Hall in the parish of Yetholm."

"Helterburn" will be Halterburn, a farm in the parish of Yetholm, Roxburghshire, Scotland. As marriages tended to be performed at the residence of the bride, Halterburn was probably where the bride lived in Yetholm.
Mr Arris' home parish was "Branxton", a parish in Northumberland, England, just 5 km from the Scottish border.

The marriage record is from the Morebattle Associate Church, commonly called the Gateshaw Associate Session. ScotlandsPeople have the marriage indexed under "Other Churches".
"Mr Morison" mentioned in the record will be the Rev David Morison who was ordained as the Gateshaw minister on 16 March 1775, he died 9 May 1818.

A book which gives the history of the Gateshaw Associate church can be downloaded free from Electric Scotland here: https://www.electricscotland.com/bible/ ... life01.pdf
