Maggie,
Forgot to tell you that you also lucked out. A conscientious government employee did his job and Fostin provided correct information when he applied for US citizenship. The numbers written just to the left of his name are Fostin’s partition for citizenship number and the date he applied for citizenship. A little to the right of his name is the date he became a citizen and his citizenship number. Immigration employees tried to match up citizenship dates with the arrival records when the info provided by the immigrant was correct.

I have sent you a private message... James Corstorphine of Donora, Pennsylvania is my Grandfather. So excited to share what we know.

Hello Amy and [TS_welcome]
I'm sure that Jean Jeanie will be very excited to find such a close relative! Now that you've found Talking Scot, we hope you'll stick around and join in the conversation!

All the best,
Sarah

Hi Amy

I have e mailed you. So thrilled that you found this old post and replied to it. :D

I'm sure we can share lots of information.

We share the same gg grandparents, John Corstorphine and Eliza Kay, making us 3rd cousins!

We have an interesting ancestor on the Kay side of the family, who was a renowned Scottish Sculptor. Some of his work can be found on the famous Scott Monument in Princess Street, Edinburgh.

Best wishes
Jean

Hi All

Amy and I have been in constant contact since we "met" on the forum and we have exchanged lots of info and photos.

One of the photos was taken in 1951 and Amy's grandfather very kindly saw fit to name everyone and to show their relationships.

However we have one little problem. One of the girls on the photo has a name, which is obviously a nickname. The only way to confirm who she is, is by seeing her birth or marriage cert, as it looks like the nickname may be an abbreviation of a middle name!

I have found a likely birth and marriage for this person on SP, but the dates are past the closure dates.

So if SKS is visiting Register House at any time, I would be grateful if they could look one/both of these up.

Obviously I can't name names on the forum, so if anyone can help, then please send me a PM and I'll fill in the details.

Best wishes
Jean
