Operator error.

There was a Windows service pack that I hadn't installed. Then the computer repair people said they were going to install it and didn't and my anti-virus program needed to be updated too. Once I finally did all of that, it fixed the problem.

The blue screen problem was probably dust slowing down the fan, but also could have been my outdated anti-virus program trying to function. Anyway, the new anti-virus program took 6 1/2 hours to download on my dial-up and the computer got through that without shutting down so it looks like it is ok.

Hi Marilyn,

Your envelope arrived today. Thanks for the certs and the marriage listings. I'll check out Maria and Catharine. I wish the Ireland records were better or more available for the 1880-1900 period. I may have found Eleanor's family in the 1901 Census, but have no way to confirm that since she came over in 1882.

I see what you mean about the entries being hard to read. It wasn't your eyesight that's for sure!

Had another green screen event this morning about 5 minutes after I booted up. Don't have a clue what caused it, but I started my log!

Off to check out some more downloads.

Hi Carol,

I dragged my husband out to Oakland Cemetery today and after he stopped rolling his eyes

we got down to business having a look around for Eleanor & Alexander Longmuir's gravestone. Its been several years since I was out there and the cemetery is much larger then I remembered. Looking for the stone without the section, was like looking for a needle in a haystack. After about a 1/2 hour we gave up and as we drove away I was mumbling a few choice words about the owner. But

All is not lost, at least not yet

My husband had a brilliant idea

He suggested I look up the corporation name (which is on-line) and sure enough there was the owner's name & phone number, which I'll call on Monday and hopefully he'll be cooperative and give me the details to find the stone? The date of incorporation for Oakland was 30 Dec 1963, forty-six years ago. The owner might be in his eighties, which would explain why he's not answering the telephone.

I can just imagine him shaking his cane at the phone "I'm not picking up that phone, it might be one of those crazy folk researching their family history.......

Nah, we're even. Don't you remember finding the 36 pictures of Warren Longtin, the jock from Lowell High School.....
