Hi Wilma
It won't help find uncle Bernard, but this book may of some interest
"A Fermanagh Childhood" by William K Parke
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Fermanagh-Child ... 0946872120

It is set in the 1930s and 40s in Derrygonnelly and describes village life of that time, a bit later than we are interested in, but having bought it second hand recently I'm enjoying it so far!

Best wishes
Lesley

Thanks everyone for all your help and information, PM's and emails - Talking Scot always come up with the goods [many-greens] .

It'll take me a while to digest it all, but the other names uncovered present new lines to follow.

Lesly I think I've read that book - is there a tale of a body buried in the wrong grave? I won't spoil it for you but It was really good. I think some 'connections' of ours, or their farm feature somewhere in it.

Now the next generation [my dad] is needing me so hey ho! off I go.....
At least the long gone rellies stay where you left them.

....maybe not reached that bit yet, if it is the same book! There was a bit about grave digging and piling up the "older bones" at the side as part of the digging.. "ahh, there is oul Maggie" etc....  so maybe the rest is still to come.

Best wishes

A year and a half later I was idly clicking through http://pilot.familysearch.org/ and typed in Stinson in Fermanagh.

Low and behold up popped Lizzie Stinson & Bernard Mullen's marriage details:
Groom: Barney Mullen
Groom's Age: 28 years
Groom's Estimated Birth Year: 1868
Groom's Birthplace: Derry, , Ireland
Bride: Lizzie Stinson
Bride's Age: 27 years
Bride's Estimated Birth Year: 1869
Bride's Birthplace: Fermanagh, , Ireland
Marriage Date (Original): 15 Sep 1896
Marriage Place: Newton, , Massachusetts
Marriage Registration Place: Newton, , Massachusetts
Marriage Registration Year: 1896
Groom's Father: John Mullen
Groom's Mother: Catherine Cain
Bride's Father: Alexander Stinson
Bride's Mother: Alice Carson

Complete with birth place and parents' names,
so I've had a grand time to myself skipping back another TWO generations
as I found Alexander & Alice's marriage in 1853 with thier fathers' names.

Oh I am a happy bunny :o

A lesson to be learned - don't give up!

New resources are appearing all the time, which threaten our brick walls ](*,)

Lesley I'm sure that info wasn't there last time I looked at the pilot site, so maybe some of your Fermanagh lot are coming out of hiding too?

Hi Wilma,

Barney & Lizzie's marriage cert is at the Massachusetts Archives and I can get you a copy on my next visit. Don't worry about the cost, its only 15 cents, best buy in town. :) Here's a link to the Mass. Archives
