REIDS BORN AYRSHIRE DIED BRAZIL AND CUBA MID-1800s

Post by q98 » Wed Apr 22, 2009 12:17 pm

A relative and I are researching common ancestors. We seek ANY data on the lives of the following brothers:

William REID (b. c 1813 d. Pernambuco, Brazil 1844, Age 31 Years)
Robert REID (b. c 1815 d. Cardenas, Cuba 18/5/1850, Age 35 Years)

Their parents were Robert (b. c 1779 d. 29/3/1855 aged 76) and Ann (m.s. SMILLIE) REID (b. c 1781 d. 18/6/1847 aged 66). In the 1841 Census, a Robert and Ann with children Margaret and Hugh are located in Hamilton Street, Saltcoats. We believe this to be the same family.

ANY and ALL assistance/advice gratefully received.

Thanks.

Hi Jim,
Do you know if either of these men were married? If so, you just might get lucky and find the OPR birth records of the children in Ayrshire, as I did with these two girls born in Rio, but recorded in the father's parish in Aberdeenshire:

Although with a name like Reid, you might want to order the film and scroll through, instead of paying for howevermany images on SP "just on the off-chance"
Regards,
Sarah

Thanks Sarah

I'll copy this hyper-link for your reply. I'll send it to my relative in Ayrshire and perhaps he can chase up there.

Thanks again.

Jim

Aye, God's backyard.

My granpa's parents, three brothers and one sister emigrated to Dunedin in 1924 while he and three other brothers stayed in Saltcoats and Ardrossan.

Hello,
You might want to check www.cubagenweb.org for info. Ed Elizondo and a number of volunteers (of which I was one a few years back) have been slowly entering info into various databases over the last few years. There is also a forum where people post queries.
The ship passenger database shows an R. Reid traveling on the Adams Grey from New Orleans to Habana on 1849-12-15.
There is not much Cuban genealogical documentary data available online, so this site is a great place to start. I speak Spanish, so if you need some help with translations, I'll be glad to help out.
Regards,
Gina
