Ontario Death Registrations

Post by Anne H » Fri Sep 18, 2009 6:35 pm

Just found this by accident while browsing looking for a medical term.

http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~onvsr ... an_new.htm

Handy to have and might be useful for some.

Regards,
Anne H

Hi Annette:

This information is from the Ontario Vital Statistics Project which is also available for marriages, births, census, cemetaries, etc. through http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~onvsr/

There is no explanation of areas or time frames covered, nor the sources, but it is searchable by surname.

Glancing through, a couple of the death announcements had some odd causes of death -

101 years, Ireland, cause – old age about 2 weeks,
Oct 06 1869, 30 years, London, cause - visitation of providence (sic), farmer,

Then there were two that were so very sad - not even a name for them

ANONYMOUS, Baby, f, June 5, 1890, Mattawa, cause – stillborn, infm – Rev. J. Poitras, St. Joseph.

S, Baby, m, October 10, 1891, 1 hour, born Tay Twp, infm - Father Francis Saut, Priest, Old Fort

Frances
John Kelly (b 22 Sep 1897) eldest child of John Kelly & Christina Lipsett Kelly of Glasgow

Thanks Anne H.
Have spent the last couple of days going through this - haven't found any rellies yet but I'm amazed how many suicides & drownings I've seen.
I've found numerous deaths due to being run over by trains and I found a couple of brothers aged 12 & 14 who were buried in the same coffin & grave- the cause of death was "burnt alive" but the saddest must be the number of stillbirths.

Paula
Searching for Barclay Aberdeenshire, Stewart Edinburgh, Brown Edinburgh & Uphall, Finlayson E Lothian, Fairley & Renton E & W Lothian for starters!

Hi Nadine,

Well that's encouraging. I'll keep plugging away...don't you worry. I'll just give it a rest for a while.

Anne H

Hi Paula,

Yes, the causes of death are heartbreaking and some too horrendous to think about. I'm like you though...finding the stillborn babies is very sad, especially those without names as mentioned by Frances.

Anne H
