Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada is 500 miles northwest of Toronto, sitting on the St. Mary's River where the Great Lakes Superior, Huron and Michigan converge.

Its gie cauld oot there boys and girls, but no nearly as much snow as in Edinburgh at the moment, based on AndrewP's reports and pictures.

Oh Frances, Sault Ste Marie as "gritty, mid-1990s Edinburgh" 
Granted, we only saw the Michigan side, but I can't think of anything less like, unless it would be our village here in France being filmed as 20th century Paris!!!
