Could this be my Jean Mclarens daughter

Post by m morgan » Thu Feb 03, 2011 1:17 pm

Hi

Im back on the search for my mothers sister Jean Mclaren who emigrated to Canada 1926. Jean married James B Powell . Ive just been given some info from an elderly cousin.I was told my aunt had a son but this cousin has told me different. My Aunt Jean Mclaren died in Ottawa hospital age 26 the doctor attended her from 27 oct 1931 till 10 nov 1931 .She died 11 nov. Also she said that my mums brother James Mclaren who emigrated to Kearny, New Jersey 1929 was at her bedside when she was given the last rites, felt a lot better knowing her brother was with her .Always thought she had died with no family around her.My mum used to tell me that her mother tried to get info from Canada through the Salvation Army but withought any results. So im doing this for all my family and for my gran who never got to see her daughter again .My cousin by the way is 80 and she to wants to know what became of jean powell and if she did have a brother as well.

My cousin said that she died in childbirth and also that she had a daughter. She said the photo we had of a little girl age about 3 was Jean Powell. She said the photo was sent with a letter to her mother who was my mums eldest sister.Unfortunately we dont have the photos of Aunt Jean and her husband as they were lost when my parents house was cleared. But i can still clearly remember them, even the little girl.

I went on to ancestry and found a Jean G Georges whos maiden name was Jean G Powell born Canada but died Warren co Trumble Ohio in <after 1960>. Gorman was Jean Mclarens middle name . Her parents were father, Powell mother, Mclaren. And guess when she was born. <after 1910>, the first day the doctor attended my aunt Jean. Was so excited thinking surely this must be her .I was thinking of hiring someone to find out for me but was wondering if anyone else had any ideas. Thanks Marguerite

Edited by LesleyB to remove date of birth and death which were after TS cut-off dates (at least 100 years ago for births, at least 50 years ago for deaths).

Hi Marguerite,
Your search is getting too recent to discuss on Talking Scot, but if I were you, I'd contact the Warren Trumbull County Public Library and ask for an obituary search. The obituary will hopefully give you some "survived by" living relatives who might know the family history on that branch and whether you are on the right track! It certainly does sound like the same woman.

Here is a link to their online obituary database. For some reason, I'm not finding the right link to search the recent obituaries, although they are supposed to be all up from 1987 to 2009. If you can't find the link either, email the librarian. They are usually very helpful.

Best of luck!
