Recently I called a cemetery in Lowell, Massachusetts. I was surprised to find out that "two legs" were buried in the plot, along with the relatives, but the "owners" of the legs were not buried there? the lady that was helping me had to think that I fell off my rocker, when I starting laughing. I explained there was no disrespect intended.
Honestly, I have never heard of amputated body parts being buried?
Regards
Marilyn

Maybe this is what they mean by "one foot in the grave?" (no disrespect intended)

Did you find out if they were to "left feet"
Just as well we can put some levity into family research otherwise I think we would be pulling our hair out

I'm surprised that this is surprising I grew up knowing that amputated body parts were buried (a very strange thing to know as a kid, and I don't know how I knew it). Those along with miscarried babies were included in the next caskets to be buried. I don't know, but would suspect that this wouldn't fly these days.
I don't know if it is regional or religious custom, but I know that it was common practice before 'medical/biological waste' was incinerated.
